Ian MacKaye once again proves to be on the know and a forward thinker. Fugazi takes music like Minor Threat and pushes it to a new level, but in a completely different way. It's pretty easy to see why bands such as At the Drive-In were so influenced by this style of music that would be later on known as post-hardcore. Guitars are used the most effectively here, in a sort of way that paved the path along with a few other bands in that certain alternative direction away from what others were doing. That heavier guitar tone over lighter verses with more abrasive singing made for wonderful songs that stood out as creative and intelligent. Fugazi manages to rock all the way through too, keeping the punk spirit alive and adding in just a little of their own extra ideas. The traded off vocals really add to the effect and get you a little more hyped up. Since 13 Songs is two EP's tacked into one, you can actually hear the dividing line between each release and the growth that occurred in that short amount of time. A must have in punk history.
